Infant Program

Our infant program is designed for children 6 weeks to 18 months of age and premised on the observation that although small in stature, children are immense in mental ability and eager to use it.

The Hills Montessori has two baby rooms: Baby Room 1 for infant’s age 6 weeks – 10/12 months and Baby Room 2 for mobile babies’ age 10/12 -18 months. Both environments stress the importance of freedom of movement. Infants in both rooms are free to move and stretch without restriction. Through movement, babies become more aware of their bodies and are able to develop coordination and dexterity without inhibition. You will notice that there are no “play pens,” “swings,” “bouncy seats,” etc.… in our classrooms. We take great care in setting up a “whole room play area” which enables babies to explore a wide range of materials, textures and objects for tactile and visual stimulation. Further, baby room 2 offers more opportunity for them to get accustomed to using some of the Montessori materials and preparing for their eventual transition to the toddler program.

  • We understand that many of the strongest, deepest and longest lasting impressions are formed early on, and we are committed to making this first experience one that is filled with warmth, love and care.

  • Language development is also an integral part of the infant program. A teacher’s role is to consciously introduce language through the use of words, inflection, tone and body language. Infants gather their first understanding of the world, and thrive, through this interaction.
